FAQs for Applicants

Who is eligible for the subsidized housing programs?

Please see the Eligibility Guidelines for Housing Choice Vouchers, Project-Based Vouchers, Public Housing units, and Single Room Occupancy units.

See our current Income Requirements for each of the housing programs we administer.

How do I apply?

You can download a copy of the Waiting List Application from our website and return it to the Housing Authority. You can visit our office and fill out an application there. You can call our main phone number and request that an application be mailed to you.

What if I need a special unit or some other type of accommodation for my disability?

There is a place on the application for you to let us know that you will need some type of accommodation for your disability. You should also ask for a Reasonable Accommodation Request Form from the Housing Authority so that we can better understand exactly what your needs will be.

How long is the waiting list?

The demand for subsidized housing far exceeds the funds available so there can be a lengthy wait to get into a program. Your time on the waiting list will vary depending on the program you have applied for, the size of unit that you need, your date of application and any preferences you may qualify for. For a description of the preferences for each program, please see the Administrative Plans for the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV), Public Housing and Single Room Occupancy (SRO) programs.

How do I know if the waiting list is open?

Information on whether a waiting list is open or closed is posted on the website pages that describe the Housing Choice Voucher, Project-Based Voucher, Public Housing and Single Room Occupancy (SRO) programs.

What happens when I come to the top of the waiting list?

You will be contacted by mail and sent a packet of information and forms that you will need to fill out and return within two weeks. Once you have returned a completed packet you will be contacted for an appointment.

In order not to miss an opportunity when you come to the top of the waiting list, you should always keep us informed of any change of address or family status by filling out a Waiting List Change Form.

Your time on the waiting list will vary depending on program, unit size, application date and preferences.
