Project-Based Vouchers
The Project-based Voucher Program is part of the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Program. A portion of the Housing Authority’s vouchers have been assigned to specific units with several nonprofit landlords. Participants that live in a Project-based Voucher unit for one year may request a Housing Choice Voucher after that time. When a Housing Choice Voucher is available, the family may look for a unit in the private rental market and receive rental assistance toward the cost of that unit.
Eligibility Guidelines
The eligibility guidelines for the program are the same as for the Housing Choice Voucher Program. See our current Income Requirements. Applicants must also pass the screening criteria of the nonprofit landlord.
Several waiting lists are maintained for the program. The waiting lists are currently open.
Participating Landlords
Landlords participating in the Project-based Voucher Program are CARE Housing, Neighbor to Neighbor, Villages, Ltd. and the owner of the Northern Hotel.
An applicant interested in living in a CARE or Neighbor to Neighbor Project-based Voucher unit should contact CARE or Neighbor to Neighbor directly. If an applicant meets the landlord’s screening criteria, they will be referred back to the Housing Authority for placement.
An applicant interested in living in a Villages or Northern Hotel Project-based Voucher unit should contact the Housing Authority to apply. To live in a Northern Hotel unit, the applicant or their spouse must be 55 years of age or older.
Participating landlords are CARE Housing, Neighbor to Neighbor, Villages, Ltd. and the owner of the
Northern Hotel.
